Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a group mysore practice is available at Abundance Wellness Center, located at 325 John Knox Rd #1. Participants pay a small monthly fee to cover costs for space rental. Currently, practitioners are asked to pay $5 for a drop in single visit. If you’ve never practiced mysore-style ashtanga, you can read about how it is practiced in traditional form in Mysore, India here. Mysore is a guided self practice. Although there is not currently a regular teacher guiding the morning mysore practice, new students are encouraged to come, and regular practitioners and teachers who participate are available to help. If you are new to mysore or to yoga more generally, it is beneficial to email or reach out through the Facebook site so that you can have helpful information to get started.
Make sure you bring a yoga mat. The room is kept at about 85 degrees, so you may find a towel to be helpful as well. Water is available (and disposable cups), but traditionally water is not consumed during practice. Although talking to one another is generally avoided to help stay focused on breathe and movements, if you are new to the practice or are learning and have questions, the more seasoned practitioners are always happy to answer questions or help you, just ask!
All practitioners must conclude their practice no later than 8 am, so it is generally wise to arrive no later than 6:45 or 7:00.
AWC is somewhat difficult to find the first time. Turn into the office buildings at the stop light opposite Trousdale Aquatic Center, and when the road ends, AWC is located on the left. Drive down the driveway to the back of the building where there is a parking lot. Enter through the back gate, where you’ll find the back door. The practice is held just inside the back door.
